Hello J.Chastain; I always shut the engine off with the kickstand. The reason is so the bike will be in low gear and will not roll off the kickstand in neutral, which it has, especially when parked slightly downhill. This habit prevents the bike falling over even on the level if someone or something should shove the bike slightly. However, you must also remember to switch the key off. Frank M
